Mission: To Encourage You To Be The Best That You Can Be.
I have made a "Commitment to Success 2004". Have you?
I invite you to come along with me and explore the "Road to Success".
Like the Sphinx rising from the ashes, with God's help, I am arising from the shambles of my life.... again. Last year about this time, I boldly made a "Commitment to Success 2004". 2004 is swiftly coming to a close and how do I account for it in terms of my success?
Society has a huge tendency to guage success in terms of dollars or whatever the local currency. It's a worldwide concept. So if your guage for success is strictly financial, then I might possibly come up on the short end of your scale. However, I do not consider my life this past year as a failure. I do concede to having it take a major detour of what I had planned it to be.
Life happens. How we deal with what Life dishes out for us, in my opinion, is a more true guage of success. To those of you who have been my friends and subscribers of Doris OnLine during this year, and to our newer subscribers who have read the previous issues, you have had a small glimpse of my priorities for this past year, especially since early May, as I have dealth with my husband's life-threatening heart situations.
In my first sentence I referred to the "shambles of my life". It is difficult, if not impossible to deal with ongoing medical problems that dictate one's daily schedule without making adjustments. A schedule that is not a part of my personal plans for success. But a schedule that has been very necessary in contributing and supporting the welfare of my husband. At the same time, I am only human, and as such, I confess to bouts of feeling that my own goals have had to take a backseat to the medical demands. I also confess to being less than superwoman. And on the days that I have difficulty remembering my own name, I blame it on stress over-load. You've heard of " writer's block", well, this gal has been suffering from "brain block". :-) Hopefully, it is a temporary condition.
In spite of it all, I am determined to continue on with my personal journey to success in 2005, regardless of the twists and turns that Life dictates for me, for success is a journey, not a destination. I may not measure up to other people's gauge of success, but I know in my heart that I have not failed this year in being the best that I could be. I have met the challenges and been responsible in the tasks handed me. For the bottom line is, I was a major contributor in keeping my husband, John, alive, and in helping to oversee his road to recovery. It is a "recovery" that only eludes to quality of life, not a cure, and not necessarily in the prolonging of life. Our picture in that respect is still bleak, yet we are thankful that he is feeling better these days. And in spite of the medical prognosis, my faith still gives me assurance of keeping him around for some time to come. I know that God and the doctors do not always agree, and that God always wins.
Once again, I thank everyone for your expressed concerns and prayers. We welcome them still, for this appears to be our new lifestyle.
I still love this quote submitted by Blanche. It is a favorite quote of her father's. Thank you again, Blanche.
"A good thought is a prayer in itself". Elder Zenith D. Whaley, a Primitive Baptist minister
As has been my style for a long time now, during the respite of better days, I stretch to grab my windows of opportunity between crisis to continue my journey. And in this current window, I want you, my friends and readers, to be the first to hear my special announcement. But first, I want to thank my brother, John Kirk, for his technical help, and I want to thank Mike Litman for his motto of, "You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going."
And so... ta... da... in celebration of my December 21st birthday ... here it is...

And speaking of success, here is something I want to share with you. I will let it speak for itself.
....
Hey Fellow Success Student!
It's Friday at 4:47pm EST as I'm writing this
and I want to share with you a 'secret' of mine that has
helped me live my dreams at 30 years old.
This 'secret of success' is one I've learned throughout
the years from mentors of mine.
A few of these people run businesses that do over 150
million dollars a year in revenue.
Here's the deal.
Most people (and I used to be like this) for 7 plus
years are very passive.
They're always passive at their jobs.
They go for their dreams very 'safely'.
They "La De Da" through life.
They 'hope' something good happens.
From my experience, this is not the right attitude
for success. 'No way, Jose'.
Let me share with you an ACTION of success.
Let me share with you a PERSPECTIVE of success
that I've seen through people who are living their
dreams, both personally and financially.
**Successful people.
ACT from a sense of URGENCY.
Let me say that again.
**Successful people ACT from a sense of URGENCY.
There's an URGENCY to accomplish tasks.
There's an URGENCY to live their dreams.
There's an URGENCY to get things done.
They're ATTACKING vs. WAITING.
Big difference.
Huge difference.
You have to go to dreams with a SENSE OF URGENCY.
None of us are going to live 'till 150 years old.
You have to ignite that part of you that can
CATAPULT you to GREATER productivity and ACTION.
Ask yourself:
If I was going to act from a sense of URGENCY, what
2 actions would I take today?
Write them down and then DO IT.
Come on, YOU can do more than you EXPECT of yourself.
You can do it.
YES, you can!
Are you ready or really ready to make your next
7 days awesome?
I thought so, let's go!
Have a GREAT day and never give up on your dreams! (It
took me 7 years to find my focus, it's not over until
you quit).
Talk to you soon.

Cracked Pots
A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of
a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack
in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion
of water.
At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked
pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with
the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect
for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own
imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of
what it had been made to do.
After 2 years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the
water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back
to your house."
The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only
on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?
That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted
flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk
back, you've watered them.
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate
the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this
beauty to grace the house"
Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots.
But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together
so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person
for what they are, and look for the good in them.
Blessings to all our crackpot friends.

The following comment was supposedly made by Paul Harvey. While I can not vouch for that fact, I do happen to strongly agree with the message it conveys and one worth sharing.
Paul Harvey says:
I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue
somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.
I
don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a
lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory
of evolution.
Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be
endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer
before a football game.
So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there
reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a
God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the
players on the field and the fans going home from the game.
"But it's a Christian prayer," some will argue.
Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country
founded on Christian principles. According to our very
own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others
better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect-somebody
chanting Hare Krishna?
If I went to a football game in Jerusalem,
I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.
If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad,
I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China,
I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.
And I wouldn't be offended.
It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome ...
"But what about the atheists?" is another argument.
What about them?
Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to
pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If
that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear
plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand.
Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or
two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.
I don't think a short prayer at a football game is
going to shake the world's foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other
cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our
parents and grandparents taught us to pray before
eating; to pray before we go to sleep.
Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a
handful of people and their lawyers are telling us
to cease praying.
God, help us.
And if that last sentence offends you,
well ... just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we
let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard
... that the vast majority don't care what they want. It
is time the majority rules! It's time we tell them, you don't
have to pray; you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance;
you don't have to believe in God or attend services that
honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your
right. But by golly, you are no longer going to take our
rights away. We are fighting back ...
and we WILL WIN!
God bless us one and all ... especially those who denounce
Him. God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still
the greatest nation of all.
God bless our service men who are fighting to protect
our right to pray and worship God.
May 2005 be the year the silent majority is heard
and we put God back as the foundation of our
families and institutions.
Keep looking up.

Just For Laughs...
Science has proven what we older folks knew all along. Laughing is good for us.
....
An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her voice, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!"
The four men didn't wait for a second invitation. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then it dawned on her why.
A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake.
The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing.
He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun.
No charges were filed.

Complaining Husband
He didn't like the casserole
And he didn't like my cake.
My biscuits were too hard...
Not like his mother used to make.
I didn't perk the coffee right
He didn't like the stew,
I didn't mend his socks
The way his mother used to do.
I pondered for an answer
As I was looking for a clue.
Then I turned around and smacked him...
Like his Mother used to do.
